How many people will have pay reduced or increased
What happens if the salary for the post is graded down?
Any posts that are graded lower than their current salary as a result of the job evaluation will be subject to temporary protection terms.
The council is working with unions locally and nationally to arrange reasonable terms for bringing the salary of the post to the correct level. This will involve gradual reductions rather than one immediate single reduction.
The full terms of these arrangements have not been agreed yet but the council will be operating to best practice in partnership with the unions.
The unions have done a lot of work on this nationally and will be bale to provide you with further details
What happens if a post is upgraded?
In the event that a post is upgraded in salary arrangements will be made to put the post holder on the correct salary as soon as possible.
It must be appreciated that some posts will be upgraded and some will be downgraded. As a caring employer the council will be taking every step to ensure that any downgraded posts are gradually reduced to the appropriate pay. This will be a cost to the council.
The unions are working nationally with employers to negotiate appropriate back pay for those posts that are upgraded. The unions are aware that unreasonable requests for back pay may lead to potential bankruptcy for employers. The balance between back pay periods and the reduction over time for downgraded posts needs to be established.
It is unlikely that there will be very much, if any back pay available in order to allow funds to pay for gradual reduction of pay
